Just needed a little break

I'm so sorry to have disappeared for so long...I'm afraid that frequently happens around this time of year. It often starts (like this year) by getting sick and then having that sickness travel though the whole family. Then of course the craziness of the holidays (and we have a couple of birthdays in there as well), plus this year my computer completely blew up...complete with a smoking (and totally ruined) hard drive. (Back up your files friends--I was really glad I had 90% of my stuff backed up, including all of my family photos!) So recovering from all of that simply added up to taking a break from my bolg. 

Today however I'm back in the swing of things and I have a simple and fun Christmas project to share:

It's just a simple frame from Walmart that I added six stockings too, one for each of us. The stockings and holly leaves shapes are SVGs from Miss Kate Cuttables. The papers are some older ones I had in my stash from Chatterbox. The script along the bottom was cut on my Silhouette Portrait along with the "Lavanderia" font.  

I embossed my stockings with my Cuttlebug, and the "Dotted Swiss" and "Holly Ribbons" embossing folders. I used Queen and Company red pearls for my holly berries and Queen and Co. Red Washi tape to hang them across my frame.

New sketchs and a new project

Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but it has been a rather busy week at our house!

Case in point-- over the weekend Marc and I bought a bunk bed for the oldest two boys and until last night it was still sitting in it's box in my living room just waiting for us to have time to put it together.

After awhile I got tired of stepping over it and decided to get started on it even though Marc would be home late from work that night. The boys helped me open everything up and organize all the pieces into piles.

Finally, once we got everything out of the box, I realised that there were no instructions in the box. I looked everywhere hoping I'd missed them somehow--after all the boys did help me unpack it--but nada.

No instructions.

Just a lot of pieces now scattered all over my living room.

Now if you know me well, then you know I can be rather determined to do things on my schedule. I finally had time to work on this and I wanted to build it right then--not in the morning when the 1-800 number on the box would actually answer their phones.

First I did some sleuthing online hopeful that a PDF of the instructions might be on their web site.

No luck with that idea.

So I decided I'd take a look at all the pieces and see if I couldn't just figure it out. Thankfully there was a very good photo of the completed bed on the box--so I spent the next hour or so determining where each part was supposed to go and what hardware each piece used. Then I started construction, which went really well.

Marc joined me soon after and together it didn't take us very long to finish. We only had to back track once or twice and in the end there weren't even any "extra" parts left over :)

It looks great in their room, and as long as we can get Spencer to use it more for a bed than a jungle gym, we will be good to go :)

Anyhow, enough of my long story, I also have a few scrapbook related things to share. First off a couple of sketches. These are #39 and #40, which will also be added to my sketch page--here. That first one may look familiar as it was the sketch I based my layout in the last post on.

I've been busy working on other pojects that I can't share yet, so these sketches are to make up for that :)

Lastly, here is a look at a little something I am very excited to complete. The other day I noticed a neighbor of mine tossing out this very cool weathered frame with 4 openings. It used to hang on the fence in her garden and it had a little shelf at the bottom that had fallen off. I thought it would be easy to repair so I grabed it and cleaned it up.

Now I'm just trying to decide what I want in the four openings, then it is going up on my wall in my scrapbook room. The openings are about 8 1/2 "x 11" so the possibilities should be endless. I'll post another photo once I have it finished.
